"Never count kids out. Miracles do happen on a daily basis, especially when it comes to children. They rally when doctors and nurses can't believe it would happen, and yet it does.

Having been a school nurse the past 13 years, I have also learned that the same is true for kids who grow up in poverty, or under less than ideal situations. Don't count them out either. We won't know how they turn out until they're grown. Some will go on to be our leaders, successful beyond our imaginations.

When I hear people say 'they don't stand a chance,' I say, 'yes they do.'

Having grown up in poverty, I know that an education or a trade is the golden ticket out of that situation. Never give up on kids; they are counting on you."
