Gale Alexander credits her granddaughter, Joella Murray, with teaching her what living life well means. Joella, 1, was born with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare genetic skin disease characterized by extremely fragile skin and recurrent blister formations from minor friction or rubbing. Joella displays strength, despite her disease.
"I have learned to view all people with more compassion, realizing that there are many fragile beings among us. None of us is immune from pain and hurt, so we should treat each other with uncommon kindness.
I have learned that the the human spirit can soar beyond the bondage of our weaknesses. Believing that no physical or mental limitation should define a person, I try to relate to them through their internal attributes."
